Strategic Planning:
A Facilitated In-House Activity

"If you don't know where you are headed and what you really need, you will end up somewhere else, with something you don't want." This in-house outcome based activity is designed to focus on the development and execution of a strategic plan for a division or Department.
A Strategic Plan Template - Selecting From a Menu...
There is no single strategic plan template that fits all situations. By selecting pertinent items from the following list, one can develop a custom Strategic plan template.

·   A Mission Statement that specifies the business of the agency.
·   A Vision Statement that illustrates what the agency strives to be when the Mission is accomplished. A Vision is a destination, the outcome of accomplishing the mission.
·   A list of Operating Principles or Values that clearly identifies those things that are critically valuable to the agency. The list might include such things as how we should work together and professional development of staff.
·   A list of Core Internal and External customers and stakeholders whose needs and expectations must be met.
·   A list of Critical Environmental Forces, which are those things that drive and restrain accomplishment of the Mission and Vision. The list might include such things as recent and pending legislation and political and funding issues.
·   A list of 5-10 Core Work Processes that must be accomplished consistently well to meet or exceed customers' and stakeholders' needs and expectations so the agency will survive and thrive.
·   A prioritized list of Strategic Goals to accomplish during the strategic plan's time-frame. The Goals are things to accomplish that are clearly linked to the Mission and Vision.
·   A list of Annual Objectives for each Strategic Goal. Objectives are specific and measurable.
·   A list of Activities for each Annual Objective. Accomplishment of activities results in achievement of Annual Objectives.
·   A list of Environmental Factors that may hinder or promote accomplishment of activities and actions.
