What Facilitation Is About
A collection of methods for helping a group of people clarify issues, explore alternatives and seek solutions. The facilitation process encourages participation, ownership and productivity from everyone in the group. The FACILITATOR is a neutral party who acts as a process expert to help the group accomplish its business
by keeping it on track while encouraging full participation in a safe environment.
Facilitation can be helpful to a new or existing group to...
·   Clarify its mission, objectives and operating methods at the beginning of its task.
·   Learn how to manage disagreements and conflicts when they arise so they can get back on track.
·   Learn how to promote efficient group process by getting through time-consuming group operating problems such as disagreement and conflict.
·   Learn group problem-solving and decision-making techniques, such as brainstorming, the prioritization matrix, nominal-group technique, affinity diagram, flow chart, run chart, histogram and bar charts.

The facilitator will work to....
·   Keep the group focused on task while staying away from content-related positions.
·   Help the group establish ground-rules about how to work together.
·   Offer feedback about group process so members may learn effective group work.
·   Provide choices about problem-solving and  decision-making methods.
·   Mediate disagreements and  conflicts about what to accomplish and how to accomplish it without a right and/or wrong blaming contest.
